*Henrico had to be wrestled out of the arms of his drug-addict mother after she refused to surrender him.  She had been living on the streets with him for seven weeks before a member of the public alerted us. He was placed in a private place of safety, and after a week the family requested that we place him long-term with a view to adopt him.  Despite much support and encouragement from the social worker to sober up, the mother visited him once, and never again.

As is often the case, he was initially cared for by one of our social workers as there was no place in the safe house, and it took a while to find a suitable place of safety.  Being able to watch him (and so many of our other special children) grow into a well-adjusted, busy toddler, who is so loved makes our job so worthwhile.
